In a time before the Conquistadors ever set foot in the New World and cut a bloody swath through the native peoples they found there through both military force and disease, before, even the great cities of the Aztecs were even a glimmer on the horizon of history, there was an island some leagues nor' by nor'east of the San Blas Mountains in what is now Panama. It was home to two groups of people: The Aztecah, who became known as the Aztecs, and the Azteca Chicomoztoca, a tyrannical, elite people who subjugated the Aztecah. The treatment of the Azteca Chicomoztoca of the Atztecah is said to have angered the gods, who, after warning the subjugated - giving them time to flee with their priest - brought upon Aztlán a great flood, destroying it. So the Aztecs believed, though the story has been mostly garbled and the truth of things have been lost to the mists of time. In truth, Aztlán was home to a very advanced people, with the Azteca Chicomoztoca having forsaken the gods for reason, logic, and science, viewing belief in a higher power as somethng for the weaker peoples of the world. They put stock in the development of technology and science, and with that, lost sight of ethics in their advancements. Aztlán still exists, cloaked and shuttered off from the rest of the world - completely isolated from the every day comings and goings of pirates, merchants, and navies, except once in a great blue moon, where unlucky travelers find themselves on Aztlán's shores. The people there tend to be very eager to meet new travelers! Because all experiments need fresh subjects, after all. | ||||
